What else can I do to improve my cats dental health?

have the dentist scrape their teeth.its expensive, but important if their teeth are very bad and the gums infected.the dental germs travel and lodge in the heart valves, destroying them.my cat died of this-"aquired cardiomyopathy%26gt;"she had been a stray with no care, too late by the time i got her.incedentally,gum/tooth infections can lead to hardening of arteries and destruction of heart valves in humans as well !!!some vet clinics offer specials like my vet-50% off dental cleanings every may -call around and u may find a special price.good luck! ps for heavens sake,i didnt mean have the dentist scrape their teeth-what was i thinking? i need more coffee-of course,i meant THE VETERINARIAN !!!!!!
Reply:you can take them to the vet for a professional dental cleaning. most cats who eat dry food dont really have this problem. it is more seen with cats who eat soft food, canned food and table scraps
Reply:Try giving filtered water and plenty of it, especially if you live somewhere where you drink groundwater. Bad water and dehydration can be a major cause for dental and breath problems (human and animal).
Reply:Your cat either needs a cleaning and quite possibly an extraction of a bad tooth. If there is a bad smell there is something bad causing it. Most likely a rotting tooth or decaying food stuck in his teeth.
Reply:brush their teeth get kitty toothpaste and tooothbrush it's like getting a dental treatment for free!
Reply:Sad to say but they probably need to have the rotten teeth removed. If the teeth are left as they are, there's a good chance your cat may develop a severe, even life-threatening infection. Also, it's really hard to eat when you're teeth hurt. Awww, poor hungry kitty.
Reply:Cats like people, can have bad teeth. This can cause any number of things. Your Vet should be the best answer. Not all do teeth. Check. It sounds like your baby mite have a bad tooth. Its sad they can't let us now, cause we now how much a tooth ache hurts.
Reply:I have three cats. One of my cats has bad breath. Now I have not tried switching foods or anything like that. However I do feed my cats high quality food. By high quality I mean Nurto, Hill's Science Diet, Eukanuba, and Royal Canin. Her breath is not overwhelming but sometimes it bothers me when she sits on my lap to get a pet. A few years ago someone gave me some pit r pats (they come in a small pink tin, I have seen them near the check out at the grocery store or at pet stores) they apparently taste like liver to the cat but are suppose to help freshen the cats breath. I really notice a difference when she eats them. And by the way she loves them. She knows the sound that they make when you shake the tin that they come in and she comes running. Give it a try.
Reply:I have always owned cats and they ate wet and dry food and had bad teeth and stinky breath. Last year I got a 4 1/2 year old Maine Coon cat who has always eaten only Hill's Science Diet dry cat food .He drinks water and I give him 1 cup of the cat food in his bowel .He eats only that every day, all day. Once in a while, I give him a little canned tuna if I am having some but that is it. He has beautiful teeth and no odor to his breath at all. Dry food is the answer, I think.
