I'm self employed and was wondering if anyone knew any good low cost Health and dental insurance?

I've worked in the medical and dental field as an Insurance Claims Processor for more then 10 years and personally the best independent "small" insurance company I have come across is a company called Mega Life and Health.

They have policies for small businesses or for single families. Their programs are relatively cost effective and their treatment of their policy holders is superb. Also they have some really good benefits packages and are generally widely accepts by many Doctors.

In my line of work there are many insurance companies I HATE to have to work with on a claim but Mega has never been one of them. They are always willing to help, are informative and genuinely seem to want to resolve the problem and provide the best care for the patient.

Try their web site at www.megainsuance.com

The only coverage you can get is individual insurance and most of them cost a lot. Get some quotes from insurance companies and they will find you the best rate. Or you can hire an employee and put them on payroll (25 + hours a week) and get group insurance, its a lot cheaper and a lot better coverage.
Reply:You could find a local insurance broker in the Yellow Pages who represents several insurers. They would help you find the best deal.

Or you could try an online service that gets you competitive quotes from different companies. See Sources for one such.
Reply:I've been self employed for 7 years. I went through 4 different companies during the first 5 years. A friend sent me to this website. I got a bunch of quotes and I've been with the same carrier for the last 2 years with no problems. Good Luck.
Reply:If you are under 30, there is tonik (which is a division of blue cross)

Its aimed at a younger demo, so i dunno what the max age is.

I believe its still under 90 for dental/vision - go on the site and check for yourself.

You can purchase group plans through independent agencies such as ours. We offer companies such as Blue Cross, Assurant, Humana, Unicare and more.

In Illinois, Group plans may be purchased by as small a group as 2 people, but you need to prove w-2 status and a certain amount of hours worked per week. A husband and wife (or business owner and one employee) operating a home business could qualify. Group plans are guaranteed issue, however if it is a "new" group plan and your "company" has not had group insurance before, pre-existing wait periods apply.

In Illinois, individual and family applicants are subject to underwriting and pre-existing conditions.

Dental is available on both the group and individual side. On the individual side coverage limits apply each year. Unicare plans are better suited for adult services as they pay more for major services. Ameritas coverage is a bit more generous in payment for basic services which are most applicable for children's dental needs.

State laws and company rules vary. It's best to have an agent research your needs with various companies and connect you with the right company, the right plan at the right price for you!

Feel free to contact us for more information. And good luck!
