As dental hygiene improves?

does dental health simultaneously? Or is tooth and gun damage irrevocable?

As dental hygiene improves?
when the gums recede in gingivitis and a person gets a deep cleaning done and keeps up on their dental hygiene the gums can heal themselves. In severe cases I would think it could be irrevocable, but I would think the person would have to have lost some teeth by then.
Reply:The bacteria that lives in the mouth feeds on the food that's left over from eating. The bacteria's 'waste' is an acid that then eats through teeth and the bone that teeth are anchored into. Enamel cannot heal itself. Gums...they can pull away from the root if there has been plaque for a long time, slowly eroding farther down to the bone where the acid will then dissolve the bone too. Those are called pockets and can't be healed, only kept clean by seeing a hygienist every three months to slow the process down. If you're gums are bleeding, they're irritated. Healthy gums don't bleed, and don't hurt.

My suggestion, if you can swing paying for the dentist..go in and get everything that needs restoration done. Find out if you have pockets. Then when you walk out and you're fixed the best they can - be METICULOUS with dental care. People have no idea how bad of condition their oral health can be in and never know it until it's too late. By the time a tooth hurts, it's gone to the pulp and the tooth is either root canaled or extracted.

Improved hygiene could maybe slow down an existing problem. But not reverse it.
Reply:Dental health can improve, if you use a good brush, floss and use a good wash. I'm a smoker with serious arthritis in my jaw. Attentive hygiene has improved my numbers. Get a cleaning every 3-6 months. If your dentist wants to do other work, demand a cleaning, first. A 45 dollar cleaning would have done wonders for me, when my dentist wanted to replace my fillings, and re-do my bondings.

I hate dentists, but I get my periodontal cleaning. It's worth every penny.
