No it doesn't cover dental work however some big companies offer free dental plan
Does Canada's universal health care also cover dental work?
It can vary from province to province, but in my experience, no.
Reply:NO
Reply:It's not quite true that there is universal healthcare in Canada because the Provinces control their own healthcare systems seperately. B.C. residents pay premiums to use the health service, Ontario residents do not, for example. Dental is NOT covered under health benefits. You have to either pay privately or if you have a very good job, you may get dental benefits through that.
Reply:Generally, no. But there are many agencies out there that will cover the costs of mandatory dental work and cleanings, especially for kids. The only things they really do not cover is anything deemed to be cosmetic, such as bleaching, or braces for someone who does not "need" them, but only needs them to make their smile look better, as it will not affect their chewing, pronunciation etc. I only know of such agencies in Ontario however. You can also visit any Dental College and have work done for free, as long as you are willing to sign a "no sue" waiver..............I always wondered how exactly they were taught...........
Reply:As a self-employed family I wish it were. It gets very expensive with 3 kids. However, it's not so we just try to save up a litlte bit every month to help pay for those types of things.
There are a lot of other things that aren't covered either - medicines, casts, crutches, all sorts of things that our provincial government as deemed "not medically necessary". Every province is different, I'm sure.
Reply:Health care in Canada is provincial, and thus depends on the province you are asking about.
In general, the answer is no. However, there are specific cases where it is covered; eg cleft palate repair.
If you are asking for a specific procedure, contact your provincial health plan.
Reply:Dental appointments for cleaning every six months used to be covered by Medicare for children up to the age of 12 in Quebec (I'm talking many years back!).
However, I am not sure if that still applies. Of course, any extra work (retainers, braces, fillings, etc.) was not covered and you had to pay for that yourself.
Reply:I can only speak about the Ontario plan, it does cover some dental work IF it is done in a hospital OR is part of facial reconstruction. Usually the work done in the hospital is wisdom teeth extraction and facial reconstruction work well would be done in a hospital setting also.
I believe that no province covers dental care for adults as for kids and seniors its anybodies guess
Reply:its not a unviersal health care system. if the company you work at does not have benefits than you have to pay for everything, including dental care.
