What's your favorite "Dental Cleaning" treat?

I've got a Schnauzer who needs some help with her teeth. She's on a Dental Health food and get's her teeth brushed once to twice a week (as much as she'll let me lol) and have seen great improvement. I like to give her a chew or a little treat every so often too. I was looking at some options online and was too overwhelmed with my choices so tell me what you like!

What's your favorite "Dental Cleaning" treat?
Yes brushing is needed and instead of brushing make it a game you play by holding the toothbrush and let her chew on it a bit. just move it around to all the teeth. You can buy flavered toothpaste to make it something she will love to do and you can do it as often as you like. be carefull on how much of the paste she gets as some are not all that good on long terms. Read labels. After she starts having fun playing with you the paste can be used a couple times a week. Good for you, most people have no idea how important dental is in dogs and cats. Can you just think what it would be like if you NEVER have brushed your teeth, ever? yuck!!!
Reply:I just use raw hide chews. I noticed within a few weeks my dogs teeth were much whiter.
Reply:nylabones! they are like a hard rubber/plastic, but the dental ones are flexible. it takes a long time for my apbt's to chew them up. they arent "food" or "treats" but they have flavors and dont leave residue on doggies teeth. they're great! they also make a blue one that has little SOFT spike things sticking out of it and they massage the dogs gums and clean the teeth while they chew. =]
Reply:i don't remeber what its called...but its the bone shaped one with blue spots all over
Reply:I use EnzaDent, recommended by my Vet.
Reply:I give my dog raw bones. They usually have a little meat left on them, so he eats them outside until he's cleaned all the meat off. Then he plays with the bones and chews on them for months afterwards. That is what my vet recommended since I do see a holistic vet.

There are other dental treats as well such as greenies, and dentabones, but be cautious of these. The size of them can sometimes make dogs choke if they try to swallow them. (I knew a westie who came into the clinic because she got a dentabone stuck in her throat).

Depending on your dog, nylabones can be good. If your dog is a major chewer and actually eats the nylabone (like mine did), then you don't want to give her them. It isn't good for them to ingest that stuff.

Rawhides seem great, but the problem with them is that rawhide actually isn't very good for dogs. If you are planning on giving a daily, or even weekly bone, the amount of rawhide being eaten (since they do actually go through rawhides and digest them) is not good for them.

Ask your vet what they recommend as a chew for your dog and make sure you always supervise your dog when they chew bones or chews or anything of the sort to make sure they do not swallow or choke on them.
Reply:the best tooth cleaner I have found is raw chicken wings, given as a treat, it not only cleans the teeth and gums but most dogs love them and they are good for them
Reply:Raw meaty bones. Even my old dogs have always had sparkling white teeth.. and NO brushing needed!
